Database Integration: Students will access the TDC database to locate examples of different map projections and compare their uses.

17.A.3b: Explain how to make and use geographic representations to provide and enhance spatial information including maps, graphs, charts, models, aerial photographs, satellite images. Students create a Word document describing, analyzing, and comparing 2 map projections.


Materials:

TDC database, Internet, Across the Centuries text, other available texts and books


Procedures:

  1. Students will read ATC Map and Globe Handbook p. G1 - G15.
  2. Students will locate and import examples of 2 different map projections.
  3. Students will write a brief description of their examples.
  4. Students will determine the best use for each projection selected.
  5. Students will compare and contrast the 2 selected projections.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed on the entire project by a teacher-created rubric that is presented to the students and discussed at the start of the project.
