Settling in the Midwest

Database Integration: For this project, students will be given three 45-minute class periods to search the TDC database to look for pictures of the homes that early settlers lived in. Students will use these pictures in a presentation to the class about life among the early settlers of the Midwest.

Materials:


Procedures:

  1. Students will read the pages in the Social Studies textbook and discuss them in class, looking for information about the homes and lifestyles of those who settled in the Midwest.
  2. Students will use a graphic organizer to take notes on.
  3. Students will learn how to search the TDC database.
  4. Students will use the TDC database to local pictures that show the homes and give examples of the way of life of the early settlers of the Midwest.
  5. Students will print out the pictures, mount them on poster board and label with appropriately informative text.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed using a teacher created rubric that is presented to the students at the start of the project and discussed.
