Database Integration: For this project each student will search the TDC database for pictures of WW II, photographs, posters, etc. Students will use the documents to support writing two magazine articles.

Activity that Meets this Standard
STATE GOAL 16: Understand events, trends, individuals and movements shaping the history of Illinois, the United States and other nations. The students will be given three school weeks to complete a magazine about WW II. The magazine articles will be a minimum of 500 and maximum 1000 words. One of the articles will be a feature article on WW II. The other can be about any topic of interest to the student. Also contained in the magazine will be two propaganda messages either borrowed or original. The students will create a cover for a magazine titled "Journal of WW II". At the culmination of the project all the articles will be placed together and bound. A cover will be chosen for all of the articles. The magazine will then be bound, cataloged, and placed in the library for future use.


Materials:

Computer lab, Microsoft Word or other applicable software, printer


Procedures:

  1. Students search the TDC database for WW II material.
  2. Students will copy or scan photos into the text of their articles.
  3. Students will use the writing process to finish and turn in two magazine articles and propaganda messages.
  4. Each classes' articles will be bound together with one cover chosen from the class.

Assessment:

A teacher created rubric that is presented and discussed at the start of the unit will assess each student on the entire project.
