Database Integration: Groups of 2-3 students will be given two class periods to research the database on whaling. They will search for photos that represent teh whaling industry. In the classroom they will use a projector and give a five-minute presentation.

Each group of 2-3 students will use the photos either in a slideshow or in a text presentation that explains the importance of the whaling industry to early U.S. History.



Materials:


Procedures:

  1. Students learn how to search the TDC database
  2. In the lab, groups of students look for photos of whaling ships and whaling artifacts.
  3. Groups copy or scan photos and insert them into a PowerPoint presentation.
  4. They give a maximum 5-minute presentation on the whaling industry.

Assessment:

A teacher created rubric that is presented and discussed at the start of the project will assess each student on the entire project.
