Civil War (Lesson 1 of 3)

Database Integration: Students will browse the collection for materials relating to the conduct of the Civil War in Illinois and the popular opinion during the war.


Materials

Computer with Internet access and printer, class notebook, maps, paper


Procedures:

  1. Students will review notes, books, handouts, and maps given in class.
  2. Students will search the TDC database for the above information.
  3. Students, in groups of three, will design a newspaper that reflects historically accurate information and utilizes images from the database. The paper will contain information about how Illinois residents felt and acted during the Civil War.

Assessment:

Presentation will be graded.
