Civil War (Lesson 3 of 3)

Database Integration: Students will browse the collection for materials relating to daily life during the antebellum period and life during the Civil War itself.


Materials

Computer with Internet access and printer, class notebook, maps, other materials that will vary by group.


Procedures:

  1. Students will break into groups of four or five.
  2. Students will review notes, books, handouts, and maps given in class.
  3. Students will search the TDC database for the above information.
  4. Students will create props using historically accurate information (as found in the TDC database) to help them reenact daily life in the mid-late 1800s. Costumes, cooking utensils, and furnishings should be as "real" as possible.

Assessment:

Presentation will be graded based on authenticity (within reason).
